Irish Coastal Painting goes to new home in the USA

Irish Coast | 20×24 | Oil & Wax on Canvas | CJK | SOLD by Art on Centre – Fernandina, Amelia Island.

To my delight this gem of a painting sold within a few hrs of being delivered to the gallery.

I mention it because it is a painting of the Irish Coast in less than perfect weather conditions and has sold from one of my gallery’s on the Sunny East Coast of the USA.

Irish Coast, is a painting I have kept for a long time because I just assumed the gallery’s in the States would prefer localized territory. It’s a painting that arrived from an emotional memory of Ireland. From time to time I need to paint these paintings, living in the states for 11 years I love the local country and coast however these paintings are from a sketch or sometimes from familiar place deep within the soul, this painting arrived after much scraping and layering of paint.

For anyone living by the coast when the weather turns bad it is just pure drama. I hope the new collectors will love their painting Irish Coast.

“They say if someone leaves an Island, the thing you will miss most is the sea.” – (Padhrig Pol – Inis Oirr)

We are an ancient people. That sense of having your breath taken away by a beautiful scene that’s like a tribal memory. – (Alan O’Sullivan – Valentia Island)

Beautiful sentiments from the people in this short video – Wild Atlantic Way – Shaped by the Sea Islands #wildatlanticway

Artist Notes

This is a studio painting with reference and notes from a trip to Ireland Dec 2014. The days were short and nightfall closed in early. I managed some afternoon trips to the cliffs of Horn Head, looking out over the Sheephaven Bay, Donegal and this painting is inspired by small plein air studies done on location, and the emotional memory of the place.
