Underwater Love

20″ x 20″ | Encaustic | In studio We have had a week of rainfall with Topical Storm Debbie so I have been forced to work in the studio. This painting is a combination of oil paint and wax. If there is a dry spell I take the painting outside and fire up the blow torch, and fling a few flames and continue painting. I have worked up three paintings over time letting them dry and reworking in layers! This

Plein-air study on location at Dutton Island, Jacksonville. FL The photos show this painting at different stages. The plein air set up with umbrella this cuts down the light on the canvas. It can be easy to paint too dark outdoors because there is so much light. When you get the painting inside they look like mud, the umbrella helps cut out some light.
