EXHIBITION STATEMENT
DUNE SHACK SEASCAPE SERIES
Exhibiting at CCPV will be five paintings by Claire Kendrick they are plein air works, reflecting her dune life onto canvas and creating beautiful paintings which captivate the magnificence of the Cape.
In 2016 Claire Kendrick was awarded with an opportunity artists around the world dream of, a residency at the Peaked Hill Bars National Register Historic District. Claire Kendrick’s residency on Cape Cod, occurred completely off the grid providing the artist with only the bare necessities and her painting materials in an effort to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Cape and reflect such beauty in Kendrick’s works.
The artist resided in one of the well-known Dune Shacks. The shanty was located miles away from civilization, but it has lodged several famous artists and authors throughout time all in search of seclusion to work.
Artist Claire Kendrick has produced many breathtaking paintings seascapes and dunes throughout her career. Kendrick is a Florida based artist but this was not her first time capturing the North East’s coast. In 2011 Claire Kendrick accepted an invitation from fellow landscape artist Anne Packard to paint at her coastal home in Provincetown, MA.
“Staying at the Dune Shack was both marvelous and frightening, life was stripped of the superfluous—no cell phone or computer—the essentials, paint supplies, a gas ring to cook on and gas light to read with at night, alone for a week perched on the dunes with uninterrupted views and huge open vistas looking out to sea, this is escapism and a chance to observe and emotionally connect to nature in its raw and finest moments. This is the thrill of the plain air painter.” – Kendrick
