Claire Jane Kendrick is an Irish-American contemporary painter whose career as a professional artist spans two decades, from 2006 to 2026. Her large-scale paintings explore the atmosphere, movement and emotional stillness of the coast, combining expressive oil painting with a sophisticated understanding of color, light and space.
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Kendrick studied Fashion Design with Technology at Manchester Metropolitan University before beginning an international career in fashion and color forecasting in Paris, London, Brussels and Sweden. That experience continues to inform her distinctive approach to color, surface, composition and scale.
After relocating to the United States in 2006, Kendrick committed herself fully to painting. Her work has been exhibited throughout Florida and on Cape Cod and is held in private, corporate and institutional collections in the United States and internationally. Her commissions include substantial residential, corporate and architectural projects, including a 12.5 × 15 foot commission for a private collector.
An important early influence was her mentorship with contemporary American painter Anne Packard, with whom Kendrick studied and painted on Cape Cod. In 2016, she was selected for an artist residency at the Provincetown Community Compact’s Dune Shack within Cape Cod National Seashore. Packard later described Kendrick as “a painter’s painter” with her own distinctive voice.
Kendrick’s current practice centers increasingly on ambitious, large-scale seascapes in which the ocean becomes both subject and metaphor—a place of movement, reflection and quiet. Her paintings balance immediacy and restraint, inviting collectors into expansive fields of color, atmosphere and layered surface.
Kendrick maintains her studio in historic St. Augustine, Florida, where she continues to develop her work and her expanding body of large-scale paintings.

“I am an American who grew up in Ireland and moved through Europe—Dublin, London, Paris and Brussels—while working in a highly competitive creative industry. Travel became a constant: New York, Tokyo, London, Los Angeles and Paris, with museums, architecture, fashion and the visual culture of each place continually shaping my eye.
That constant movement eventually taught me something unexpected: how to become still.
Water has become an endless fascination for me. On the canvas, it is both movement and pause—a place where all those crossings, shifts and adaptations can settle into stillness. I’m interested in that moment when the energy of the world quiets, and what remains is light, color, atmosphere and space.”
All the senses seem to be wide open in Claire’s paintings….she is a talented and committed painter and clearly has her own voice, a painter’s painter. I would place my bets on Claire now and in the future
