The beauty of the Cape coastline, estuaries and salt marshes are breathtaking, and any painter will tell you there is a lifetime of inspiration. For over a decade I have a connection to the area, so it seemed important to explore showcasing my voice and viewpoint in this highly competitive and populated art market. I am delighted to be represented by The Gallery at Trees Place, Mike Donovan (owner) & Hannah Conway.”- Claire J Kendrick
I was very fortunate that early in my art career, my paintings caught the attention of Anne Packard, an American Contemporary Painter from Provincetown, Cape Cod, MA. Anne was having a one woman show in St Augustine, FL and was staying locally. She came into the gallery that represented my work and commented to the gallery owners that at last she had found a painter who knew how to paint. The owners asked Anne if she would give me a critique of my work. “I will give her 15 mins…tell her to be here at 10 am tomorrow morning!” We met the next morning as planned and after talking for more than two hours I had an invitation to stay with Anne and paint on Cape Cod. Anne was very gracious with her time and knowledge and her nod of approval and mentoring has given me the confidence to push through barriers in the art world. It also made galleries and collectors take a second look. – Claire Kendrick
Claire J Kendrick (b.1974, Irish / American) Growing up in a creative family of architects and designers, has given Claire a spatial awareness and sense of scale when it comes to commissions and large-scale installations. Claire worked as a fashion designer in Ireland, England, France, Belgium and Sweden. A love of the arts was fostered, her education and a rich cultural backdrop has given her work a unique edge. By applying abstraction to her subjects, perhaps it was her experience in Paris, working in color forecasting and sitting at the runway shows of London and Paris, that inspire a free reign to enhance reality. Claire’s paintings are color sensations, passionate responses, and poetic experiences.” I work quickly, process slowly and my creative expression is better suited to the visual arts than to the stage, I prefer to work things out in the privacy of the studio and let the viewer lean into the work. Learning to love life as a studio introvert. The drama exudes in the work.” – Claire
Attracting a local and international following, Claire is dedicated to pursuing her painting career and is professionally represented by five gallery’s. Early in her career she worked with Contemporary American Painters, notably Cynthia Packard and Anne Packard.
Collectors respond to the contemporary style and the expressive way in which Claire paints.
“All the senses seem to be wide open in Claire’s paintings…………she is a talented and committed painter and clearly has her own voice…..a painter’s painter. I would place my bets on Claire now and in the future.” Anne Packard, 2012
Anne Packard introduced me to the area when she invited me to Cape Cod, in 2011, I returned in 2016, when I was awarded a coveted residency at the “C-Scape” Dune Shack. Located in Cape Cod National Seashore, by Provincetown Community Compact, Inc. Visiting in 2022 renewed my interest in exhibiting on the Cape with the dream of spending summers painting. It has taken over a decade and that first visit to make that a reality.

A Selection of Landscape, Still Life & Seascapes by Claire J Kendrick
“I love the expanse of the marshlands, the big cloudscapes, the scenery is dramatic and I try to express that in my landscape & seascape paintings. When you’re out painting in these isolated places it feels like you have the world to yourself. The subtle shifts of light can in a moment calm or energize the environment.”
