Shadow Box CJK-Studio

Shadow Box CJK-Studio

With the beginning of 2012 its been an opportunity for a major tidy up – one car load of excess has been delivered to charity. If you haven’t used or worn something in a year give it to someone who needs it more than you! Ahh it feels great to be lighter and brighter in the New Year. Rid of clutter I set about organizing the studio and building a new shadow box, something I’ve be procrastinating about for a while.

Shadow Box with Tiki & Tonka

Shadow boxes are extremely useful constructs that artists have employed for centuries to control the light on their still life models. They can range from the very simple to the very complex. I have been working with a few pieces of foam core taped together which works great and can easily be collapsed when space gets tight in the studio!!

I am ready for an upgrade and this is a great set up for controlling light, changing out backgrounds and is simple to build.

I have Carol Marine and her blog to thank for kick starting that action plan. She has a step by step guide to building one. http://caroldavidjacob.blogspot.com/

It’s always good to have a little help from friends, thanks Carol.  As for the two furry friends in the picture Tiki always the show off, has decided she will take centre stage. Tonka is the well behaved guy!

Next step is the tripod and I haven’t decided on a system just yet, so I’m opting to set in on a table top for now, for those interesting perspectives the height adjustment will be necessary.
