Spring into Action
Spring into Action
When spring is in the air, new fresh ideas, color, fabric and art bring to life your living space.
Coastal sand tones, soft blues, green and greys with a splash of orange find their way onto the palette and paintings of Claire J Kendrick. Directly inspired from nature many of Claire’s sketches painted en plein air find their way to canvas. On a large scale Claire uses her creative flair and artistic license to push color in her paintings there is layering of colors found in her work, orange underpaintings peeking beneath the ice blue ocean paintings exhibiting at Gardner Colby Gallery, Naples. Drips and runs, traditionally covered by subsequent layers are left exposed in her works. Soft color shifts in impasto layers of oil paint hint at the impression of water in her seascapes.
“With painting the results are subtle I’m having fun with underpaintings showing. Drips and runs in the paintings being exposed and part of the overall painting. My palette changes just as the seasonal light changes things get lighter and brighter.” – Claire | CJK-Studio
Paintings are investment pieces, more frequently we are seeing the world of interiors become so sophisticated we can change up the hardware and subtly mimic this in framing for instance. Coastal palettes are sophisticated and so are the budgets. In new build projects, paintings are often the icing on the cake in a room. Maybe the last detail. When an interior designer is involved its often a choice which pulls a scheme together. When art collectors are involved the art dictates everything, they are often more daring and the juxtaposition of mismatch and the unexpected are at play. It just takes a little more skill to find that balance. I love to see my works of art in both worlds!
The transitional style of Claire’s work lends itself to both contemporary and traditional settings. Using modern mediums Claire’s oil paintings have a richness, other mediums cant touch. Claire’s technique allows for subtly layering of texture, color with a matte finish, so sunshine or light distorting the surface is not an issue.
