In Her Studio – CJK

Commission Bridal Bouquet’s, Original Works of Art and High Quality Giclee Prints available by CJK.

When one thinks of botanical paintings, traditional, detailed paintings come to mind.

Paintings by Claire explore the delicate, radiant, beauty of plants and flowers in a contemporary style. “It is my practice to always work with reference. I like to buy fresh flowers and set up the arrangement and start with a strong composition. As I begin painting, each brush stroke has to say something”. – CJK

Restful White

12″ x 12″ | Oil on Canvas Board |

This is an oil study in preparation for a larger painting. The colored under painting shows in places, these are pentimenti, traces of the previous work. Its fun to leave zings of color otherwise not expected. For me it adds something unexpected to a painting and gives me ideas for future works….! This a bouquet of hydrangea, peonies, twigs and greenery.

New Paintings in the Botanical Series

Here are a few new paintings in the Botanical Series –

still life, painting, flower,

Vase and Vessel | 12×12 | Oil | CJK-Studio

This small painting inspired the large work below – I was attracted to the muted tones and calm clean palette.

encaustic, oil, wax, painting, still life, flowers

Dancing Irises | 40×30 | Oil Encaustic | CJK-Studio

I was inspired to do this larger painting ” Dancing Irises”  having painted a smaller version of this still life set up ” Vase and Vessel”. The Irises provide rhythm and movement in a calm muted set up. – I like the play of frenzy and composure.

Peaceful Pose | 24×24 | Oil Encaustic | CJK-Studio

Peaceful Posy – Layers of paint and wax this is an extremely textural painting.

Botancial Paintings

Mirror Life | 40×30 each | Oil Encasutic | CJK-Studio

A pair of paintings – (Placement on either side of a bookcase) – The challenge and interest for me  was to explore rhythm and balance.

Calm

36″  x 36″ |Oil Encaustic | CJK

I found these beautiful coral & yellow orchids from a local farmer these were freshly cut. This tip from the pro — put a penny in the water or a few drops of bleach it stops the water turning and they should keep for three to four weeks.

…. I forgot to mention that the French Bakery sells really good tarte au citron… here is the photographic evidence. Also the photo of the vase and flowers – I always forget people get a  kick seeing the still life set up and inspiration. I lifted the vase and flowers to a light box set up for painting.

orchids-and

No guessing why the sweet treat didn’t make it in the painting!!!

Love Wasteland

36″ x 48″ | Oil Encaustic | Love Wasteland

“Love Wasteland”

One of the greatest human needs is love and connection – yet how often do we take time to consider how good we are at building friendships, connections meaningful relationships. So rarely to we think about how we contribute, are we good friends, companions, lovers?

Think about the green drips representing –

Volume bars on a stereo showing the love that’s in life.

Notches on a bed post….!

Tombstones marking love or friendships lost.

Memorable meetings, fun times shared.

Like stocks and shares the rise and fall, what do we value.

The dates and gatherings we have planned in our future.

Those lost in conflict!

Those who are important to us.

Even a tiny bloom can survive in a wasteland; our choices can effect what’s in the vase.
