Guana Morning

Guana Morning | 12″ x 12″ | The Worley Faver Gallery, St Augustine When you arrive at a great spot to paint, sometimes deciding what to paint can be a challenge. Edit, edit, edit then squint and choose the view that will interest you and hold your attention. This view was stunning but given the time of year was flat on the value scale so I had fun making some of those color vibrations yet still making the painting

Great Day at the Office!

Today I was out in the field – it helps if you carry sunscreen and bug spray!! But hey I’m not complaining. Washington Oaks great location, it’s known for its formal gardens they are the center piece of the park. Of course I had a look and took some pictures but I had a hankering for the beach. So these paintings become like songs notes, staccatos’ and pause steps to make it read as one place, feeling or moment. “The song and

As usual I have fun pushing

Dutton Bright

Dutton Bright | 12” x 12” | In Studio So last week I posted some plein air sketches painted on location at Dutton Island. It was a stunning spot and this time of year it’s a dark autumnal palette. I thought the paintings were maybe a little dark when I got them into the studio but they had something I liked, a moody feeling about them. Florida can be so over saturated with light sometimes that this time of year

Dutton Island

16″x20″ | Oil on canvas | In studio This week I have been painting en plein air at Dutton Island, Florida. It was a great spot for big open marsh scenes it’s a quiet dirt road leading to a boat ramp not busy this time of year. I started on a 16×20 canvas and had to work quick as the nats on steroids (gnats) were killer, I would have liked to spray ’em good but we plein air artists try
