Great Day at the Office!

Today I was out in the field – it helps if you carry sunscreen and bug spray!! But hey I’m not complaining. Washington Oaks great location, it’s known for its formal gardens they are the center piece of the park. Of course I had a look and took some pictures but I had a hankering for the beach. The beach has a fantastic shoreline of coquina rock formations along this part of the Atlantic ocean have a pink glow from […]

Snap

Snap | 6” x 6” | Sold Snap is a card game that’s really easy-to-learn for two or more players. Players must race to be the first to yell “Snap!” after noticing a match on the table. If you are the first player to yell then you will win all the cards as more cards to add to your pile. The first player to collect the entire deck is deemed the winner. So look for a match, a pair or […]

Puzzle Pond

Puzzle Pond | 9” x 12” | In studio Plein Air Study in a dark shady side part of the lake at the Jacksonville Arboretum. These dark dense areas are a maze of shapes and color shifts and loads of stuff that just boggles the mind. Seeing shapes and simplifying the mass was the challenge here. As usual I have fun pushing […]

Dutton Bright

Dutton Bright | 12” x 12” | In Studio So last week I posted some plein air sketches painted on location at Dutton Island. It was a stunning spot and this time of year it’s a dark autumnal palette. I thought the paintings were maybe a little dark when I got them into the studio but they had something I liked, a moody feeling about them. Florida can be so over saturated with light sometimes that this time of year […]

Dutton Island

16″x20″ | Oil on canvas | In studio This week I have been painting en plein air at Dutton Island, Florida. It was a great spot for big open marsh scenes it’s a quiet dirt road leading to a boat ramp not busy this time of year. I started on a 16×20 canvas and had to work quick as the nats on steroids (gnats) were killer, I would have liked to spray ’em good but we plein air artists try […]

Autumn Marsh

8″x10″ | Oil on canvas | In studio Autumn Marsh, plein air study. They say creative breakthroughs are experimental and they don’t come from too much intellectual analysis so with this in mind I chose the thing that was dark and challenging water and mud – now how to make that interesting? The composition of this was charming so this was a quick fire sketch on location. Find Dutton Island by heading North on Mayport Road turn left on Dutton […]
